As is known, SAP Analytics Cloud is SAP’s strategic direction for the future of analytics. The integration of BI, planning and predictive analytics in a single device allows for a smooth experience providing a clean transition from reporting to simulation, to planning and reiterating all these in the opposite direction, and all are augmented by machine learning. Plus, Analytics Cloud becomes the de facto analytics standard for all core SAP Cloud applications.

Extend Analytics can be described as an initiative that enables SAP BusinessObjects BI users to extend their business intelligence (BI), predictive and planning capabilities with SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC).

Extend Analytics reflects its focus on helping enhance critical on-premise use cases while leveraging universes, document structures and assets with the business intelligence, planning and predictive innovation delivered by SAP Analytics Cloud. Live connectivity enables the user to have the most up-to-date information for real-time insight and decisions.

The goal here is to enable you to gain additional value from your existing SAP BusinessObjects BI investment. With SAP Analytics Cloud, you can extend your analytics capabilities and your self-service user analysis across your entire organization, while using your enterprise operational reporting, semantic layer and universes.

Where to Start?

The heart of Extend Analytics centers around replacing reports created on BO’s end-of-life products by using SAC, using SAC stories to act faster for new developments and turning to SAC for sophisticated/intelligent analytics features not available on BO.

SAP BusinessObjects Explorer and Xcelsius (Dashboards)

In 2017, Adobe announced that Adobe Flash will no longer be available starting from January 1, 2021.

Based on Adobe Flash, SAP BusinessObjects Explorer and Xcelsius will no longer be available, either. SAP Analytics Cloud is an excellent alternative for custom dashboards and data discovery. It offers data visualization and SMART data discovery, business intelligence reporting, dashboard and analytical application design (Analytics Designer), and leverages predictive analytics, machine learning and natural language query.

Rapid Story Creation for New Reporting Needs

In the Extended model, SAC can be selected as the platform for newly created reports. You can create and share a new story on SAC as well as enabling users to change and use this story as they wish. In this sense, creating new reports through SAC enables a more dynamic reporting process and saves time. The reports, that are created within the scope of this plan in the first place followed by a presence in BO environment, can be moved to SAC whenever they need to be used for user interaction.

Smart Data Discovery with Augmented Business Intelligence/Analytics

Organizations which use Augmented Analytics may see users spending less time for data discovery and dashboard design. This gives them more time to utilize machine-generated advanced insights to decide and act on next best course of action and it also provides its users with a true self service BI.

SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.3 release represents the latest major release of the analytics industry’s leading platform for scalable enterprise reporting. BI 4.3 has been designed to help enhance and develop the critical on-premise use cases that it supports today as well as leverage the universes, document structures and assets with the BI and predictive use case innovations provided by SAP Analytics Cloud. SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.3 provides maintenance support that will last until at least 2027.
